Description
Casreli was founded in 2014 by five medical doctors who initially set out to make wine just for themselves. But, that all changed when they won a string of medals at the ‘International Qvevri Wine Competition’ in 2017. They now produce 10,000 bottles a year and export their wines to 5 countries. And, hope to someday give up their day jobs and focus on winemaking full-time. They are certainly headed in the right direction with the quality of their wines – in July 2020 one of their Qvevri amber wines featured in Decanter Magazine’s ‘Top 30 Orange Wines’!
Casreli is located on the right bank of the Alazani Valley in the winemaking region of Kakheti. They are completely organic and dedicated to reviving Georgia’s most ancient and rare/forgotten grape varieties. Their wines are made solely from grapes grown in their vineyards. And, they work exclusively with Qvevri. Their meticulously hygienic winemaking practices (something carried over from their background in medicine) also helps to separate their efforts from the pack.
This Saperavi is made using an ultra-traditional Georgian winemaking method whereby grape skins, seeds, and juice are all left to ferment in Qvevri (a large clay jar buried underground) for two weeks. The result is a completely authentic natural wine with low levels of sulphur. If your preference is for a fruit-driven and rounded Saperavi, then look no further! This light-to-medium-bodied wine is highly drinkable without sacrificing character. Perfectly balanced and great for any occasion. A real crowd-pleaser. Only 2,000 bottles made.
Bottled without clarification/ filtration/ fining. Total Sulphites: 30 mg/ L
Suitable for vegans.
