Organic Qvevri Mtsvane 2021 – Ethno

£23.99

Description

Ethno is one of only a handful of certified organic wineries in Georgia. Owned and run by two friends – Lado and Iva – with an unwavering passion for a natural way of living and making wine:

“The biodiversity of our vineyards (Khashmi and Manavi), where flora and fauna live in harmony to maintain the balance of the ecosystem, is essential for sustainable viticulture and symbolises our commitment to the environment”

Located in the leading winemaking region of Kakheti, their vineyards have protected designation of origin status. More specifically, they can be found 30 and 70 km east of the capital city, Tbilisi. And, 600-750 m above sea level. Production of both white and red wines is via the ancient Georgian Qvevri method – where fermentation (with extended skin contact) and ageing takes place in large subterranean clay vessels.

Our partnership with Ethno has been a long time in the making. Ever since we tasted their wines at the ‘RAW WINE Fair’ in London (2018), we knew we were on to something special. Their precise and sophisticated organic Qvevri wines stood out from the pack. It turns out we weren’t the only ones who were impressed that day… Sommeliers from reputable UK Michelin-starred restaurants were also captivated. As several return visits to the Ethno stand confirmed.

Unfortunately, as a young winery with limited production they were unable to supply us immediately. However, we maintained contact with the remarkable people behind Ethno. And, our patience paid off this year (2024) when our first consignment of Ethno wines arrived!

This certified organic wine has spent 6 months in Qvevri and 12 months in stainless steel. A classy blend of Mtsvane (50%) and Rkatsiteli (50%). Robust, complex, and balanced.

Suitable for vegans.
