Description
ONE OF THE WORLD’S ‘TOP 30 ORANGE WINES’ – DECANTER, JULY 2020
Dakishvili Family Selection – or, the superbly accomplished Qvevri winemaking father (Giorgi) and son (Temuri) duo – is the source of some of Georgia’s most refined, deft, and elegant Qvevri wines. Based in arguably the most reputable Georgian winemaking region of Kakheti. Totally estate grown and bottled (which is still very rare in Georgia). The family owns eight hectares of vines and works with selected plots of 60 to 80 year old vines.
Giorgi himself is humble, diplomatic, and one of Georgia’s leading winemakers, having studied at the prestigious Odessa National University and at UC Davis. Thanks to him and now his son, the Dakishvili’s winemaking lineage continues to extend well over a century.
Grapes are fermented on the skins and then aged for 6 months in Qvevri. Bottled without clarification/ filtration/ fining. Total sulphites: 50mg/ L
Suitable for vegans.
“Giorgi Dakishvili and sons continue to turn out brilliant traditional Qvevri wines, even if it’s a challenge to keep up with their label changes (what was Vita Vinea is now Dakishvili Family Selection). Here, Kisi’s typical ripe papaya and sharon fruit are really exuberant and the tannins good and grippy but not in-your-face. Drink 2021-2028”
