Mukuzani is Georgia’s most famous and well-regarded controlled appellation. It is situated on the south-west bank of the Alazani river, where the soil is light clay and calcareous. It is most famous for its dry red saperavi wines, which typically see more oak aging than other regions.

Tbilvino’s Special Reserve Mukuzani is produced in limited quantities of only a few thousands bottles, from well matured, fresh and high-quality grapes. Fermentation and lengthy aging in oak barrels then creates a wine with a unique taste and complexity. 100% of the wine goes to French oak barrels for 10-12 months to create a complex palate of oak, tannins, fruit and vanilla. The wine has clear tones of smoke, blackberry, black currant and is characterized with long-lingering aftertaste.

This wine is also suitable for long cellar aging, with its tannins become rounder and sweeter with age.

Mukuzani Special Reserve matches well with smoked cheese, and most meats. It goes ideally with “Bozbashi” (spicy tomato soup with mutton or lamb meatballs), barbeque, lamb haunch, fried kidney and  different patés.
